Dream pop music originated in the UK during the mid 80′s when bands started experimenting with a fusion of post punk and ethereal music resulting in transforming bitter sweet melodies into more sonically ambitious sounds. Lyrics are often delivered by deep breathing females or whispered male vocals. Songs which are renowned for influencing the sound of this genre of music include The Velvet Underground’s “Sunday Morning” and John Lennons “#9 Dream”.
