Emo
What is Emo Music?

- Image via Wikipedia
Emo Music is another style of rock music which is typically characterized by melodic music and expressive lyrics (often some kind of a confession). Originating in Washington DC in the mid-1980′s within the hardcore punk movement it soon became known as emotioncal hardcore, which naturally became emocore and eventually, of course, just emo. Many contemporary punk rock bands in America began to emulate the sound which was instrumental in it shifting more towards a blend indie and punk rock. The 1990′s say some bands break into the mainstream world of music, and at the beginning of the 2000′s it was firmly embedded in mainstream music culture.
Representative Emo Musicians
Emo musicians and bands in the pioneering years were Embrace and Rites of Spring with other groups like Sunny Day Real Estate and Jawbreaker emerging in the early 1990′s. Other bands followed such as Dashboard Confessional and Jimmy Eat World at the beginning of the 2000′s.
