What is Crossover Thrash Metal Music?
Crossover Thrash Metal Music (or just sometimes called crossover) is a type of thrash metal which also contains lots of hardcore punk, more than the standard thrash metal does anyway. The overall sound is definitely influenced by punk but sounds a bit more heavy metal and aggressive than the more traditional hardcore punk or thrashcore. Crossover thrash metal was really created when heavy metal bands and hardcore punk started borrowing bits of each others musical styles, it was strongly associated with skate punk in the beginning, but gradually became more popular with the audiences who liked heavy metal.
Representative Crossover Thrash Metal Musicians
Crossover Thrash Metal was born at Ruthies (a club in Berkeley) in 1984, although they were originally called Metal Core. Doesn’t it get confusing? Anyway, at Ruthies they had a bunch of hardcore punk groups such as Suicidal Tendencies and Dirty Rotten Imbeciles playing alongside the great thrash metal groups such as Metallica and Anthrax. Obviously everything eventually got a bit mixed up! New bands emerged in the crossover thrash metal style, such as Nuclear Assault, Electro Hippies and Septic Death – nice!
He needs to be careful not to get his hair tangled doesn’t he! What about his shorts? It must be hot up there.
Just look at those moves.
