What is Rap Rock Music
Rap Rock Music fuses lots of instrumental and vocal elements of hip hop with some of the forms of rock. Don’t confuse rap rock with rap metal or rapcore, it’s similar but different. Rap rock takes its influences from funk, alternative rock, heavy metal, pop or hardcore punk, it’s been described as a mixture of hardcore and white rap. It generally has heavy riffs and a big, lurching beat with vocals often being rapped more than what could be described as “sung”, hence the name.
Representative Rap Rock Musicians
Rap Rock Music didn’t really emerge into mainstream music until the 1990’s, although even as far back as the 1970’s some rock bands such as The Clash and Blondie experimented with hip hop influences. Bands of the 1990’s which really fused hip hop and rock influences and found mainstream success include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine, Faith No More and Living Colour. The popularity is waning a little now, but it’s only a matter of time before a new generation of music lovers discovers the genre.
